A large pelagic predatory shark, Lamna nasus, of the Atlantic.

Etymology

Unclear, but likely from Cornish porth (“harbor”) + bugel (“shepherd”), with the latter element either influenced by English beagle or in fact formed from it, with only the first element truly being from Cornish.
