muezzin

Definition

The person who issues the call to prayer from one of the minarets of a mosque.

Etymology

From Turkish müezzin or Ottoman Turkish مؤذن (müezzin), from Arabic مُؤَذِّن (muʔaḏḏin, “one who calls (to prayer), crier”).
