Borrowed from Latin geminī, plural of geminus (“twin”), calque of Ancient Greek Δίδυμοι (Dídumoi), calque of Akkadian 𒀯𒈠𒀸 (māšu), calque of Sumerian 𒀯𒈦𒋰𒁀 (ᵐᵘˡMAŠ.TAB.BA, “the Divine Twins, in Mesopotamia identified as Lugal-irra and Meslamta-ea; name of constellation”).
